Improved AM Broadcast Reception I was emailed by Adrian, VK4KL, with a query about how increase the gain for the AM broadcast band on the TS-480s. Here's what he has to say: On 13 Feb 2015 16:01, Adrian Futrill wrote: Thanks for the page of useful mods for the ts480. I have one question. I have tried to do the broadcast reception mod but I cannot find the switch(?) in the radio. Had the radio apart and looked for nearly an hour with no luck. Adrian My reply: Hi Adrian It is not actually a 'switch' but a pair of jumpers, like you used to have on computer motherboards. It is marked "BC-ATT" on the RF Board and moving the jumper from the "NORM" position to the "DX" position increases the sensitivity in the broadcast band by 20db (not 10db as stated in the article you read). If you download the "Advanced User Manual" from my website and go to page 17, you will find a diagram of the RF board with the location of the jumpers marked "ATT at BC band" and circled in red at the lower right. Hope that helps and good luck. Nick, EA7/G4GCP Go back to the previous page. Return to top of page. |
